Natural setting with a great level of preservation of the ecologic wealth; at the same time it is fitted with great touristic services and environmental education. It is indeed an authentic theme park about the importance of water as an ecological, economic and cultural resource. The visit consists of a 1, 5-kilometer excursion throughout the Algar River course (cove in Arabic language) to get to see the landscape, fruit of the Karstic landforms of the limestone rock. Find here spectacular waterfalls, numerous fountains and springs that sprout from the rock, the “tolls” (water haven) where you can have a refreshing pure and crystalline water baths—formerly known as “source of health”, the old dam, the impressive channel, the centennial ditches (still in use to this day).

22 kilometers off the Alicante coast, there is the last inhabited island of the Valencian Community, the Island of Tabarca—with a population of 61 in 2012. At the present time, the walls that surround the city were declared Historic and Artistic Complex of Cultural Interest. To get to this little piece of land in the middle of the Mediterranean, your best bet is to get on a taxi-boat from the Port of Santa Pola. Within a few minutes, you will find yourself in this Marine Reserve surrounded by an amazing environment, diving in it crystal-clear waters and enjoying the typical “Caldero de Tabarca” (delicious stew).

Villajoyosa is a coastal village of great beauty. Its walled old part of town is bathed by the waters of the Amadorio River, and its overview presents a picturesque image of painted house with bright colors. The houses’ facades were painted like that so that the seamen could easily see the coast when they were arriving to the village.

VillajoyosaEl Palmeral de Elche

The Palmeral de Elche is the biggest palm grove in the whole European continent. There were palm trees in this location in prehistoric times, but with the presence of the Arabs in Spain, the palm grove became a sanctuary for this tree. The Muslims set the space into gardens and they developed its cultivation. At the present day, this space has over 200.000 palm trees and was declared World Heritage by the UNESCO.

The spring is also a wonderful time to ride a bike. The green track Agost-Alcoy is a touristic ride that goes through the old train tracks that was never operational actually. The track offers a very beautiful natural landscape. It has a length of 22 kilometers and does not have significant ramps or slopes. Besides, apart from a perfectly fitted surface, it is well suited for people of all ages and fitness levels—either on foot or by bike.
