Once there, we can walk around through some emblematic streets such as Calle Mayor, Gran Via or Calle Alcala. We surely find places of great interest such as Plaza Mayor, the Mercado de San Miguel, the Plaza de Sol or the Circulo de Bellas Artes, where we can enjoy one of the best terraces of Madrid, apart from its exhibitions and showrooms, of course.
While walking down the Calle Alcala, we can visit the Plaza de Cibeles, the Palacio de Comunicaciones (current City Hall), the Puerta de Alcala and the Parque del Retiro, where you can enjoy a nice walk surrounded by nature, take a boat ride or visit the Palacio de Cristal.
Walking towards the opposite direction, through the Calle Mayor, we can visit the Catedral de la Almudena and the Palacio Real de Madrid, along with its charming gardens. We will be actually pretty close from the La Latina neighborhood, known by its many bars and restaurants where you can have a drink and a tapa.
A little to the north of the aforementioned places, and for those of you who are planning on driving around your hire car instead of walking, we find a must-see stop, the Templo de Debod and its surrounding gardens.
Hiring a car in Madrid will allow you to get to know some other cities in the province such as Alcala de Henares, city declare World Heritage, a classic Castilian like the village of Chinchon or the beautiful city of Aranjuez.
