Barcelona is situated at the shore of the Mediterranean
sea. In this city important world events took place like, for example, various
Universal Expositions or the Olympic Games of 1992.
Barcelona offers the visitor a large number of touristic
sights, starting with Roman ruins, the medieval city and the important
modernist districts.
Standing out amongst the sights are especially the buildings of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Doménech like the temple of the Holy Family ("Sagrada Familia"), the Milà House 'La Pedrera', the Güell Park or the Palace of Catalan Music.
Another very attractive area of the city is "Las
Ramblas" - a promenade that units Barcelona City Centre with the
Historic Port and on that little markets, news and flour stands, street artists,
painters as well as a large numer of stores may be found.
The Promenade of
"Las Ramblas" ends at the Historic Port where also the Maritime Museum
and Europe's largest marine aquarium is located.
