3-day travel plan for Majorca

Day 1: Tramuntana Highlights

Palma: Explore the Old Town and the Cathedral (La Seu)

Start your adventure in the vibrant city of Palma, the capital of Mallorca. Spend the morning exploring the old town, a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets steeped in history and culture. Stroll through the Plaza Mayor and Plaza de Cort, where Palma’s majestic City Hall is located.

Don’t miss Palma Cathedral, known as La Seu. This impressive Gothic structure stands majestically facing the sea and is famous for its stained glass windows, especially the rose window, which floods the interior of the cathedral with a magical light. Take time to explore the interior and climb the terraces for panoramic views of the city and harbour.

After the cathedral, visit the Almudaina Palace, a former royal palace turned museum. Stroll through the gardens of S’Hort del Rei and discover the Lonja de Palma, a Gothic building that used to be the headquarters of the Merchants’ College.

Palma Catherdral

Valldemossa: Visit the charming village and the Carthusian monastery of Valldemossa

After enjoying Palma, head for the picturesque village of Valldemossa, about 20 minutes’ drive away. This charming village is known for its cobbled streets, stone houses and colourful flower-filled balconies.

Valldemossa’s main attraction is the Carthusian monastery of Valldemossa, a former Carthusian monastery where the famous composer Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand spent a winter in the 19th century. You can visit the cells where they lived, as well as the small museum dedicated to them. Don’t forget to stroll through the beautiful gardens of the Charterhouse and enjoy the panoramic views of the valley.

After your visit, take some time to explore the village. Enjoy a coffee in one of the cosy cafés and try the famous “coca de patata”, a typical sweet of Valldemossa.

Deià & Cala Deià: Discover the artistic village and relax in Cala Deià

Your last stop of the day will be in the charming village of Deià, located about 30 minutes from Valldemossa. Deià has been a haven for artists and writers for decades, attracted by its natural beauty and bohemian atmosphere. Stroll through its narrow streets, visit the art galleries and enjoy the breathtaking views of the mountains and the sea.

From the village, head down to Cala Deià, a small rocky cove with crystal clear waters. It is the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. You can swim in the sea or just enjoy the tranquillity of the place. If you are hungry, there are a couple of restaurants next to the cove offering fresh seafood and spectacular views.

Day 2: Mountain Villages and Hidden Coves

Sóller & Puerto de Sóller: Stroll around the main square and enjoy the harbour.

The second day starts in Sóller, a picturesque village surrounded by mountains and famous for its orange and lemon production. From Palma, you can reach Sóller in about 40 minutes by car. On arrival, stroll through the Plaza de la Constitución, the heart of the village, where you will find the impressive church of Sant Bartomeu and various cafés and shops.

A unique experience is to take the wooden tram that connects Sóller with its port, Puerto de Sóller. This century-old tram will take you through citrus groves and offer enchanting views of the landscape. In Puerto de Sóller, enjoy a stroll along the promenade, relax on the beach or enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants overlooking the sea.

Fornalutx: Travel through this picturesque mountain village.

From Sóller, drive to Fornalutx, a small village only 10 minutes away by car. Fornalutx is considered one of the prettiest villages in Spain, and it’s easy to see why. Its steep, cobbled streets, stone houses and breathtaking views of the mountains make it a place of dreams.

Stroll through the village, discover its most picturesque corners and enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the place. Don’t forget to visit the church of Fornalutx and the Plaza de España, the centre of the village.

Sa Calobra & Cala Tuent: Drive along the scenic road, visit Sa Calobra and relax in Cala Tuent.

Continue your route to Sa Calobra, along one of the most scenic roads on the island. The winding road leading to Sa Calobra is an experience in itself, with its hairpin bends and spectacular views of the mountains and sea.

Once in Sa Calobra, stroll along the Torrent de Pareis, an impressive canyon that flows into the sea. It is a perfect place to take photos and enjoy the scenery. Then drive a few more minutes to Cala Tuent, a quiet and less crowded cove. Here you can relax on the beach, swim in the crystal clear waters and enjoy the peace and natural beauty of the place.

Day 3: Southern Coves and Charming Villages

Cala Pi: Start the day with a swim in this beautiful cove.

On your third day, head to the south of the island and start with a refreshing swim in Cala Pi. This cove, with its turquoise waters and surrounded by cliffs, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun. Cala Pi is relatively small and quiet, making it ideal for swimming and sunbathing without the crowds of the more popular beaches.

For lunch, choose one of Santanyí’s traditional restaurants, where you can enjoy typical Mallorcan dishes such as sobrasada, tumbet or frito mallorquín. The relaxed atmosphere and charm of this village will captivate you.
