Calpe and the Ifach Rock

This post is also available in: Spanish

Very close from Alicante, in the charming town of Calpe, we find the impressive Ifach Rock, a natural park formed by a 332-meter high rock connected to the peninsula by a very narrow isthmus. The rock offers a very rich Valencian endemic flora and an important fauna with a great presence of birds, such as the peregrine falcon or the double-crested cormorant.

Ifach Rock, Calpe

Ifach totally controls the coastal landscape, and that is exactly the way it was perceived by numerous civilizations that settled here throughout the history–it was used as a watchtower to warn about sea invaders.

This is a very precious place for climbers and hiking lovers. In fact, the ascent in quite amazing for climbers, with falls and roofs, and taking into account always that the sea is right below and the mountains as the background. Regardless of the option, we suggest you an ascent to the rock. The birds the live and make their nest in this world’s corner know quite well how awesome the views are here. On a clear day, you will be able to sight Formentera and the Cape of Santa Pola.

If you would rather get to know the sea’s treasures, you may think about practicing scuba diving in this area. You can be sure that you will be astonished at the huge bio marine richness: we find lichens, algae, sponges and fish of very diverse species. Also, there is coral in the cracks of the submarine walls and Mediterranean sea grass on the sea bed and fine gravels close to the rock. Furthermore, the beaches located at both sides of the Ifach Rock are of crystal-clear waters and fine sand.

A beautiful natural landscape, breathtaking beaches, a marina and a magnificent gastronomy are the main ingredients you can find here. Both Calpe and the Ifach Rock are nothing but gems of the Costa Blanca and they deserve to be visited.
