How to get to downtown Malaga from the Malaga Airport

This post is also available in: Spanish German

The Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport is located just 10 kilometers away from downtown Malaga.

There are a few ways for you to go from the Malaga Airport to downtown Malaga.

BUS

If you want to go from the Malaga Airport by bus, the EMT of Malaga offers, from 2010, an express line shuttle service that connects the city of Malaga with the Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport. This is actually the Line A: the first stop is the Terminal T2 of the airport itself, in the arrivals hall, and it ends at the Plaza General de Torrijos. The cost of the service is 3 € and, among its main and most meaningful stops are: The Paseo del Parque, La Alameda, La Avenida de Andalucia and the bus station of Malaga. The ride has an approximate duration of 20 minutes and the tickets can be purchased from the EMT’s website, in the ‘Lines and schedules’ section. There is a bus every 30 minutes.

TREN

Another way to go to downtown Malaga from the Malaga Airport is by train, using the line C-1 Fuengirola-Malaga downtown (Alameda) from the Renfe Cercanias service. The airport’s train station is underground and it is located underneath of the Terminal T3. You can access it through the ‘Intercambiador Modal de Transportes’ building—located just in front of the Terminal T3. If you want to hop out in downtown, the ride will have a duration of 8 to 12 minutes, depending on where you decide to leave, María Zambrano or at Centro Alameda, respectively.

Regarding the price for a train single ticket from the Malaga Airport, this will depend on the ride and day of the week, but the price ranges from 1,80 € and 2,60 €. It is possible to purchase the tickets right from the automatic ticket vending machines that can be found at the very same station. From the airport, there is a short-distance train exiting every 20 minutes. The train schedules from the Malaga Airport to downtown Malaga can be checked out from the Renfe’s website.
