Are you planning a getaway for Valentine’s Day and don’t know where to go? February is as good a month as any to travel, but, what’s more, as a time of year when we don’t normally travel as much, it’s the perfect month if you’re looking for a couples holiday full of peace and relaxation.

Of course, although we love to receive romantic gifts like bouquets of flowers or surprises like a romantic meal on Valentine’s Day, a romantic weekend getaway, for example, is an excellent choice to amaze your other half with one of those special gifts they’ll really get excited about.

That’s why, to help you plan your trip or to give you a few ideas for getaways in Spain this February, below, we’ve put together a list of the best places to take a romantic trip and make the most of Valentine’s Day.

3 plans for a romantic Valentine’s trip in Spain

Make your way along the Mediterranean coast by car, take a tour of the most charming inland towns and villages, or disconnect in the heart of nature… What’s for sure is that you’ll take plenty of photos to make your Instagram the envy of all your friends this February and Valentine’s Day.

Ready to discover the best spots to make your romantic getaway in Spain?

Romantic getaway in Mallorca

If you’re looking for two or three days of peace and quiet, as well as the opportunity to enjoy walks in a mountain landscape or relax by the sea, Palma de Mallorca ticks all the boxes. And even more so if you beat the rush and head to the island before spring arrives and it fills up with tourists.

Fancy a road trip around Mallorca for a weekend? Imagine it, you fly to Palma and, just after landing, pick up your hire car at Mallorca Airport. This is where your romantic getaway really begins. From there, you can set off exploring whichever corner of Palma takes your fancy, in total freedom and independence, and all at your own pace.

To make sure everything goes smoothly and you don’t miss a thing, we’ve put together a list of the unmissable sites you simply have to see in Mallorca:

  • The Cathedral of Palma, also known as the Cathedral of Light or La Seu, is the ultimate must-see in the centre of Mallorca. This is a unique construction and one of the most impressive works of the Valencian Gothic in existence. Its magnificence, both inside and out, makes for the perfect starting point for your getaway in Palma.

  • A sunset stroll along the shore of the harbour, starting at the pier and continuing through Avenida Antonio Maura or the tree-lined landscape of the Passeig del Born, before making your way along Carrer de la Unió or Carrer la Riera: without a doubt, this is one of those romantic walks that would make anyone fall in love.

  • Walking peacefully through the historic centre of Palma, look for the Costa de la Pols, discover charming shops and, above all, let yourself be carried away by the books on offer in places like the Babel bookshop. This entire area is a truly charming and magical place, allowing you to soak up everything that made writers and artists like Balzac, Edith Wharton and Henry James fall in love with it. It’s time to stop, sit down and enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine in the best company!

  • Enjoy an outing to the heart of the Sierra de Tramontana mountain range, passing through the landscapes of Sa Calobra and Torrent de Pareis. A route as classic as it is spectacular, with some incredible views. You simply have to make it to the end! The route itself is beautiful, but the end, with a natural river mouth opening out onto one of the most stunning coves of Mallorca, is a treat for all the senses… And the chance to disconnect surrounded by nature!

  • Discover one of the little paradises of the Balearic islands: the island of Sa Dragonera and its “dragons”. This is an islet located to the west of Mallorca, almost clinging to it, declared a National Park and filled with fauna and flora, including the so-called “dragonets” – or lizards otherwise known as “sargantanas”.

Valentine’s getaway in Madrid

Of course, we’re talking about the month of February, one of the coldest months of the year, but Christmas has passed and the hordes of tourists who visit Madrid in autumn and the month of December have disappeared. That’s why we believe this is the perfect time to visit the capital, find out more about the province and enjoy the greatest privacy. And yes… we know you’re already thinking about those low temperatures you might find in the centre of the peninsula, but as you’ve already been warned, it’s simply a matter of wrapping up a little warmer to enjoy Madrid in a different and truly charming way. Fancy it?

  • Explore the most historic districts of the centre of Madrid or go beyond the usual recommendations and take a trip through the charming towns of Madrid, as the province is packed full of great little corners to explore.

If you prefer to go at your own pace and enjoy more independence, you can rent a car from Madrid Airport or, for example, to make your Valentine’s Day even more special, why not hire a motorbike from Madrid Atocha or Chamartín and make your way around the city on a Vespa Primavera?

El Escorial, everything there is to see in Aranjuez or the most picturesque sites of Chinchón await you… And you’re going to love them!

  • What about a rural getaway in the mountains of Madrid? Mountain landscapes, nature, winter sky, crackling fireplace … You’re bound to find your perfect plan for a relaxing February weekend in one of these towns near Madrid, just wonderful for making your rural getaway: Patones de Arriba, Buitrago de Lozoya, Rascafría…

  • And how could we forget a romantic meal? What better place than a big city like Madrid to find the restaurant and type of cuisine you like best and fancy trying! Looking for a few suggestions of something that never fails and is always incredibly romantic? Of course, we’re talking about Italian cuisine. We guarantee you’ll find an establishment in this list of the best Italian restaurants in Madrid in which to book your table.

Romantic getaway in the south of Spain

Andalusia is an area packed with surprises and contrasts – an entertaining, culturally rich region full of unforgettable landscapes – that few other places on earth can compete with when it comes to finding the perfect destination for your couples getaway. Ready to explore the south by car and discover a romantic Andalusia? Let’s begin!

  • In Malaga, you’ll find love on wheels. The quintessential province of the Costa del Sol is full of towns and cities well worth a visit. And we’re not just talking about Marbella or Torremolinos, but some unmissable places like Nerja, Ronda, Mijas or Antequera. A route in style through the most beautiful towns of Malaga!

  • If your romantic getaway plan is missing a walk in the heart of nature, and if you had to choose just one outing to explore: making your way along the Caminito del Rey is a spectacular and unmissable experience if you’ll be spending a few days in the area.

  • And how could we talk about Andalusia and the south of Spain without recommending a visit to Seville? No matter how many times you’ve been to this city, the Cathedral of Seville, the Giralda, walks along the banks of the Guadalquivir and, above all, though it might seem frivolous, the opportunity to update your profile picture with a photo in the gardens of the Alcázar are reasons enough to go back. Above all, if you’re looking to offer your getaway a romantic touch, Seville and its surroundings make for the perfect destination.

What do you think? Do any of these Valentine’s Day trips fit the bill for you? We could go on and on with options and recommendations, but…

Come on, let’s go! Just a few more notes…
